Brevard County’s Only Certified American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Diplomates

If you are looking for a pediatric dentist who goes above and beyond the normal call of duty, you have come to the right place. At Sunshine Smiles, we are extremely fortunate to have the only two Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD) in Brevard County as our Pediatric Dentists. The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry chooses Diplomates whose credentials have been verified, who has successfully completed voluntary examinations, and who demonstrate specialized knowledge and skill. As the ABPD puts it, a Diplomate is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care through a voluntary commitment to lifelong learning.
The idea behind the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry is to certify pediatric dentists in order to provide assurance to the public and increase oral health care for infants and children through adolescence. Their vision is to inspire pediatric dentists “to provide high quality oral healthcare to all children and maximize patient outcomes through continuous participation in the certification process.” The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry collaborates with internal and external stakeholders in order to achieve a unified vision of being an effective steward of its entrusted resources and accountable to the Diplomates.
Dr. Kristin and Dr. Alvarez believe it is important to be a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry because it guarantees their skills as professionals through an unbiased and qualified source. Being the only two dentists in the area who have met all of the Diplomatic requirements plays a critical role in why they have been able to prove their knowledge of dentistry and skills with child patients time and time again to families throughout Brevard County. The qualifications that Dr. Kristin and Dr. Alvarez both possess are often what gets patients in the door, but what keeps them coming back is the trust that they earn through positive experiences with patients and their families.
American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Diplomats renew their credentials annually to ensure that all licenses and requirements are updated and legitimate. There are four areas that Diplomats are required to achieve completion of four key areas of pediatric dentistry, Professional standing, lifelong learning, cognitive expertise, and satisfactory performance in practice/continuous quality improvement.
There is actually an entire board of people, called the Examination Committee, that was formed to insure that the Diplomate examinations test the candidates’ pediatric dentistry knowledge in the best way possible. The Examination Committee is responsible for the test that the Diplomates are required to take and verifies that the Diplomates are in fact prepared and qualified enough for the title of Diplomate.
Dr. Alvarez has been an American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Diplomate since June of 2002 and is also a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Florida Dental Association (FDA), American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (FAPD), Central Florida District Dental Association (CFDDA), and the Brevard County Dental Society.
Dr. Kristin has been an American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Diplomate since March of 2009 and is also a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Florida Dental Association (FDA), American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (FAPD), Central Florida District Dental Association (CFDDA), and the Brevard County Dental Society.
Both doctors take their Diplomate status very seriously and work hard to uphold the mission and vision of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. At Sunshine Smiles, we are extremely proud of the time and effort that Dr. Kristin and Dr. Alvarez have dedicated to constantly learning and dedicating themselves to advancements in all areas of pediatric dentistry.
Diplomatic standing has given not only the doctors, but all staff at Sunshine Smiles the opportunity to grow through the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. We are very grateful to work with the only two Diplomates in Brevard County and improve the practice daily. Good leadership and strong knowledge of the practice creates a very positive energy that spreads throughout Sunshine Smiles and we hope that it reaches our patients and their families as well.
