The Vitamins Your Child’s Teeth Need

Just because there is no exercise you can do to help strengthen your child’s teeth doesn’t mean sit back and do nothing. As a parent, you can help strengthen your child’s teeth by serving them well-balanced meals that are rich in essential vitamins and nutrients.

Eating well-balanced meals that are filled with Vitamin D, calcium, and phosphates help give your child the vitamins and nutrients they need to grow healthy, strong teeth.

Kid-Friendly Food Options Filled with Vitamins and Nutrients

Many parents think the only way to get the proper amount of vitamins and nutrients is by having their child take a vitamin supplement every day. While this does help, children don’t always like having to take a pill on a daily basis. Luckily, there are kid-friendly food options that are filled with essential vitamins and minerals. At Sunshine Smiles, we are strongly against giving children gummy vitamins as we have found them to be the number one cause of cavities. If you do decide to give your child a vitamin supplement, please stay away from gummy vitamins for the sake of their teeth.

Some of the foods you can incorporate into your child’s diet include:

  • Milk
  • Cheeses
  • Yogurt
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Cauliflower
  • Nuts
  • Sesame seeds
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Peppers
  • Oranges
  • Strawberries

Milk, cheeses, and yogurts contain high amounts of Vitamin D and calcium. Carrots, celery, and cauliflower are rich in essential vitamins that not only help strengthen teeth, but helps with muscle development and growth. Nuts and seeds contain high amounts of calcium while peppers, oranges, and strawberries have high amounts of Vitamin C which can help the body fight harmful bacteria that can destroy tooth enamel.

Next time your child complains about not being able to eat sweet treats and junk food all day, just tell them that you are giving them ‘super foods’ that will strengthen their teeth. They may not thank you now, but they will when they grow up and have healthy, beautiful smiles.
